Bio

Mr. Jeff Carpenter has been teaching band and music in Alabama public schools since 2008. Before coming to Elba, he previously taught at Horseshoe Bend High School, Ranburne High School, Leroy High School, and Slocomb High School. He is a graduate of Jacksonville State University, where he received both his Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts degrees in music education. While at Jacksonville State, Mr. Carpenter was a member of the world-renowned JSU Marching Southerners for five years, where he served as section leader of the saxophone section. He was also a member of the JSU Chamber Winds, Wind Ensemble, and Saxophone Choir. Mr. Carpenter studied saxophone performance under the instruction of Dr. Tony Logsdon and Grammy Award-winning saxophonist Mr. Mace Hibbard, music composition/arranging with Dr. Mike D'Ambrosio and Dr. Jerryl Davis, and wind band conducting with Dr. Kenneth G. Bodiford.

Mr. Carpenter's bands have consistently received Superior ratings and awards at marching and concert competitions and festivals throughout Alabama and Georgia. These awards include multiple Best In Class awards in all captions as well as Overall Band for his marching bands, and Superior ratings at Alabama State Music Performance Assessment with his concert bands. His 2012 Ranburne band performed as part of the halftime entertainment at the 2012 Nokia Sugar Bowl in New Orleans, Louisiana. Many of his former students have received music scholarships to major colleges and universities, including Alabama, Auburn, Jacksonville State, Jones County Junior College (MS), North Alabama, South Alabama, Troy and West Alabama, and have participated in both the marching and concert programs at these institutions.

During his time at Leroy, Mr. Carpenter built the Leroy Marching Bruins into one of the most competitive 1A bands in the state. Over a three year period, the Leroy band never received any rating lower than Superior, and won numerous Best In Class awards in all captions. Over that same three year span, the Leroy Bruin Drumline was undefeated in competition, capturing the Best In Class Percussion award six consecutive times. In 2017, Mr. Carpenter met Elba head director Mr. Shaun Hammonds at the football playoff game between the two schools, leading to a friendship that would ultimately bring Mr. Carpenter to Elba.

Mr. Carpenter is currently in his 2nd year as Music Teacher/Band Director at Elba Elementary School, and is the Assistant Band Director at Elba High School. He is a member of the National Association for Music Education, the Alabama Music Education Association, and the Alabama Bandmasters Association. He is an active arranger for several marching bands throughout southern Alabama, including Leroy High School, Millry High School, and Washington County High School. He currently lives in Enterprise, Alabama and enjoys traveling, playing golf, and working on his vehicles in his free time.
